We are very excited!
A late night brainstorming session back in December has resulted in the successful launch of two community newsletters: Spotlight on Ile des Chenes focuses on Ile des Chenes and Grande Pointe; and Lorette Living is self-explanatory.
An initial launch took place on January 2, with 500 4-page counter copies of each edition being hand-delivered to businesses in Ile des Chenes, Grande Pointe, Lorette and Deacon’s Corner.
“The response has been phenomenal. Businesses are eager to sign up for the affordable advertising opportunity that targets customers close to home,” stated Marianne Curtis, publisher and owner.
Both these publications recognize the need for grassroots printed community newsletters as a venue to provide information to seniors, and people in rural communities who have either disconnected from social media, or do not have reliable internet access. After one month, both editions have sold out ads for the next 12 months, opening the door for expansion.
“In a world where social media seem to be the “go to” for getting local information, Oak Island Publications remains steadfast in their belief, there is value in using hands-on print media as a means to gain clients and exposure at a local level especially in rural communities.”
Content will be pro-community, with paid advertising giving local organizations a monthly opportunity to advertise their upcoming events, fundraisers, registrations etc at little or no cost.
We are looking for YOUR information. Upcoming events, fundraisers, business information, church news, services, school events; recipes, photos and even artwork. Is there a volunteer you want to recognize? Got a column idea? Pitch it! Space is dependent on advertising, so if you are a business with a small budget, we are here to help you get your message out.
Do you have a favourite recipe that you want to share with our readers? We are looking for recipes to feature in our upcoming issues. Does your recipe have a story to go with it, we want that too. If your recipe is selected, you will be put into a draw to win a cooking prize pack. Winner will be announced in the December 2019 issue.
The next deadline is January 20. An additional two pages will be added to each issue. If you have content or want to advertise email:
Stay tuned; announcing a 3rd, and possibly 4th community newsletter soon!
